Other Limited Services

Outpatient/Skilled Nursing Care

The Student Health Center cannot provide outpatient/skilled nursing care services to students.  We are not staffed or equipped to provide such services as chest PT, IV infusions, or other complex therapeutic modalities.  We will assist with arrangements/referrals for such continuing care through a home health agency, visiting nurse agency or community physician.  Check our webpage, under Local Providers, for home health information.  Please call the Student Health Center at (804) 289-8064 for additional assistance.

Physical Exam

If your study abroad program requires a physical exam, you may obtain one through a local physician's office or from your family doctor.  The Student Health Center primarily treats acute illness and injury, so we only perform a limited number of physical exams.  We may perform pre-operative physicals and you must provide the necessary paperwork/orders from your surgeon.  We may perform ROTC physicals for students enlisting after matriculation.  Scheduling is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  This service may be curtailed when there is a high prevalence of acute illness, such as influenza, on campus.

Wound Care

The Student Health Center may provide wound care for an individual student for a maximum of two (2) weeks.  This allows the student adequate time to make other arrangements for continuing care, such as through a home health or visiting nurse agency.  The student must provide specific written instructions from the treating physician.  The student may be required to provide their own supplies if specialized products not ordinarily stocked in the Health Center are ordered by the treating physician.  If a student misses three (3) scheduled appointments during the two-week period, this service will be immediately terminated and the student must seek their wound care elsewhere.
